Anaconda

Common name: Anaconda
Scientific name: Eunectes murinus

Habitat:

This snake originates from the North of South-America and knows 2 sub-species;

*Eunectes Murinus Murinus (from the Amazone, Columbia, Ecuador and Peru)

*Enectes Murinus Gigas (from Northern-Columbia , Venezuela, Guyana and Trinidad).

Law:

CITES-B

Appearence:

They can grow up to a length of 21 - 33 ft, and weigh up to 400 - 550 kilo (depending on when they ate and when they messured it's weight!)

The head is blund and it's eyes seem to be on the outside. On it's back he has two rows of roundish dark saddles.

Coloration is from brownish-green up to dark-green.On the side they have a row of dark circles with light-cream to orange spots inside.Just behind the eye , a cream / orange stripe with black edges starts and point to the corners of the mouth.

Enclosure:

This snake needs a BIG tank that can stand very humid conditions, for a mature anaconda you should think of a tank messuring: 13 ft wide x 7 ft deep x 5 ft high minimum! You allso need to provide for a large waterpart so the snake can go in with every part of it's body! Some 50% needs to be covered , because these snakes like to hide..

This is one of the main reasons to keep a anaconda , besides the fact they need a daytemp. of 32 degrees Celcius and a nighttemp. of 22 degrees Celcius!

Food:

Rats, Guineapigs, Chickens, Fish, and other snakes and éven Caimen. Anacondas are even known to attack children who are fishing nearby !

Nice to know:

The anaconda is NOT a petsnake!
